A Co Monaghan resident is raising awareness to help the homeless. Paddy Grenham who was a candidate in the local elections earlier this year will sleep outside Monaghan courthouse on October 11th in a bid to raise much needed funds for national homeless charity Focus Ireland, through the annual 'Shine a Light' initiative. There are currently 27 homeless people in Cavan and Monaghan according to the latest statistics released by the Department of Housing.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Paddy said that he is "not surprised" by these local figures as he himself came "dangerously close" to becoming homeless, making this fundraising initiative cause which is close to his heart. According to Paddy, there are a number of factors which contribute to an individual finding themselves homeless such as financial issues, domestic abuse, and issues with addiction to name but a few. As well as fundraising, the local man also believes that more must be done to support those who are homeless, through additional services and housing.
