A Monaghan man has been hospitalised following contracting the rare condition of botulism in Bordeaux during the Rugby World Cup last weekend.
The Irish Independent are reporting a man from Co Monaghan is being treated in a hospital in Barcelona following the outbreak in France.
Shannonside Northern Sound understands the man is from the wider Castleblayney area. Authorities in Bordeaux believe the outbreaks linked to out-of- date sardines that were served in a wine bar.
Meanwhile, the Mayo born husband of a woman who died as a result of the illness is still being treated in hospital in France. The 32 year old woman died after attending Ireland's opening match at the Rugby World Cup.
The UK Health Security Agency says the illness, which can cause paralysis and even death, doesn't spread from person to person and there's no risk to the public.
