"It's important for older people to be aware of the supports that are available to them." That's according to Seamus McDermott who is Chairperson of the Monaghan Older People's Council. According to Seamus, accessing the relevant information is "vital" for older people, as many are unaware of what is available to them on their own front door step, particularly in the likes of Co Monaghan.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Seamus went on to highlight the importance of local link bus routes that are available to healthcare facilities not only in Monaghan, but Cavan and Dublin on a daily basis. He added that services such as the Community Intervention Team are extremely beneficial to older people and it's important for those who need the service most to know that it is there and available to them.
"If people go to Dublin to get procedures done, sometimes they have to go back there to get simple things done like dressings changed and other follow-up procedures.," explained Seamus. "However, there's a new service that I only recently found out about called the Community Intervention Team. They will change a dressing or deal with any sort of follow-up care that is needed and a lot of older people across Co Monaghan don't know that service is there. The landline number is 047 95790 if someone out there needs this service."
