A Monaghan judge has jailed two people for social welfare fraud.
The pair were working in the county at the time.
Isaura and Sevestian Lacatus, both 29 years old with an address at Carrickmeen House, Slane Road in Navan were working in a local poultry farm and had set up bank accounts in false names to claim social welfare.
More than €9,600 was fraudulently taken by the pair through this method.
Defence Counsel said the money was being sent to their native country to care for a sick relative, and the activity ended after he died.
It was added that neither financially benefitted themselves.
Judge Denis McLoughlin said it was a serious offence and must be dealt with as such to warn others attempting the same.
He sentenced both to six months in prison.
