Last week, Dominic Flood, a 22-year-old Apprentice Joiner from Carrickroe in Co Monaghan competed in the World Skills Competition in Basel, Switzerland.
Dominic is a 3rd year Apprentice with Cavan Monaghan Education and Training Board (ETB) and is the 2021 Irish Joinery Skills Champion. He is employed by Kieran McKenna Staircases whom he credits for much of his excellent training and work experience.
Speaking to Northern Sound earlier, Doimnic highlighted his delight at being selected to participate in the event and to represent Monaghan there.
He added that it was "tough going" in the lead up to the event as he prepared to compete with some of the best skilled tradespeople in the business.
"It was a great honour; I was up with the best in the world. It was like an Olympics for apprentices and it was great to see and experience the different skills and the quality of craftmanship.
"There was joinery which I was competing in, carpentry and cabinet making all going on at once. And it was great to see how everyone was fairing out," added Dominic.
