Monaghan households generate enough single-use plastic waste annually to fill 80 Olympic swimming pools.
3,700 tonnes of this waste is produced in the county every year according to the organisation CUSP (Cease Using Single-Use Plastics), who are trying to see this reduced to 1,100.
The group, which was set up in 2018, aims to distill global figures of single-use plastic waste and show what the impact is locally.
In Monaghan there are 12 towns that make up 36% of this waste.
Monaghan Town scores highest with 463 tonnes annually, followed by Carrickmacross on 303, and Clones on 101.
