Monaghan Hospital has just been awarded Age Friendly status making it just the second hospital in the country to achieve the title. It was awarded to the local hospital by Age Friendly Ireland, the organisation charged with delivering the government's vision of an Age Friendly Ireland.
Monaghan has proudly been an Age Friendly County for over a decade after Monaghan County Council signed up to the programme in 2011. In order to be recognised as an age friendly premises, an entity must undertake the WHO four stage process for Age Friendly recognition.
The award recognises the hospital's commitment to improving accessibility, comfort, and inclusivity, particularly for older adults and people with disabilities. Chief Officer of Age Friendly Ireland, Catherine McGuigan said: "The work and improvements done by Monaghan Hospital has led to an Age Friendly culture being adopted by the staff, which will lead to continuous improvements in the coming years."
