A Monaghan haulier has told a Seanad Special Committee that the customs procedures in the UK post-Brexit are "a free-for-all".
David McArdle was speaking during a discussion on the impact of Brexit on Trade Connectivity and Trade Flows.
Local Senator Robbie Gallagher told the committee that it's "disappointing" that there "seems to be many problems" within the Irish system, such as IT issues and "cumbersome paperwork".
However, David McArdle responded that "Ireland is ahead on certain things", while "UK customers are not up to speed on their paperwork".
Mr McArdle, who's Treasurer of the Irish Road Haulage Association, added that the UK systems have yet to come online, and he anticipates "a lot of issues" when this happens on July 1st:
