The HSE is urging the public to get vaccinated against the flu as soon as possible. The health service wants to prevent potential overcrowding in hospitals in the coming weeks. The National Ambulance Service says its currently receiving a high volume of calls in the lead up to Christmas.
Monaghan based GP Illona Duffy outlined who is eligible for a free vaccine; "Anybody over the age of 60 and anyone under the age of 60 who has an underlying health condition, including asthma chronic bronchitis, kidney failure and diabetes. Anyone who is pregnant should absolutely be getting the vaccine. The final group are anyone between the age of two and 17 who are entitled to the free nasal vaccine."
