The HSE is to start rolling out the latest Covid 19 booster vaccine to over 50's from next Monday.
Following the recent NIAC recommendation that a second booster be given to over 50's, the health authority says 60-64 year olds can make an appointment from today.
All those aged over 50 will be able to book their jab in the next two weeks.
Monaghan GP Dr Illona Duffy is encouraging patients not to hold out for a new version of the vaccine to be launched.
"While developments are being made to create new vaccines that would incorporate more protection against the Omicron type variants, we don't have that yet," she added.
"We still know that even with the high rate of the spread of the Omicron variants, we have still seen the protection from the initial vaccines towards serious illness in those who become infected.
"As the virus develops so too will the vaccines develop."
