A Monaghan GP has criticised a Government move that will lead to local GPs determining whether or not a patient may need a PCR test.
Dr IIona Duffy says she "can't see it working" following Government's decision to close Covid testing facilities across the country by Autumn, which would leave the onus of testing in the hands of GPs.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, the local GP raised her concerns over the "lack" of communication she received and how it has led to "total confusion" across the industry.
Dr Duffy claims that at "every step" of the Covid pandemic, GPs done what was expected of them, but warned "things are much harder now."
She revealed things are "busier than ever before" and an increasing number of GP shortages has already left many unable to take leave this summer.
Dr Duffy believes that PCR testing by GPs will only lead to the interruption of daytime surgeries, and as a result patients will find it harder to see a doctor, if at all:
