A Monaghan GP says the additonal 430,000 people that have been added to the
GP Visit Card system will struggle to access services.
Dr Ilona Duffy who was speaking to Northern Sound following this week's
budget says she was left "suprised" by the move.
She said that 14% of the county's GPS are now over 65 and a large cohort is
retiring.
The Monaghan GP added they are not being replaced and this coupled with
changing healthcare needs is putting pressure on GPs already providing a
service.
Dr Duffy says general practice is also changing and that too must be
factored in.
