Monaghan GP Illona Duffy says people shouldn't rely on just one antigen test to determine whether or not they have Covid-19.
The local GP was speaking this morning as it emerged that 885 people are in hospital with Covid 19 - an increase of 59 since yesterday.
There are also 32 patients with the disease in ICU.
Taoiseach Michael Martin says the roll out of a fourth round of Covid vaccines will take place in the autumn.
Meanwhile, Dr Duffy says that anyone displaying symptoms should test themselves regularly at home.
"If you have any symptoms you really have to test yourself, do that home antigen test," she continued.
"And one isn't enough, I got caught out myself; I was doing twice daily antigen tests with mild, mild symptoms.
"I didn't know was it Covid-19 or was it not Covid-19.
"But it was Covid-19 which was later proven by a positive antigen test."
