"People who have a head cold, a cough or a virus should wear a mask". That's according to Dr Ilona Duffy who told Northern Sound this morning that those very symptoms could be Covid-19.
Her comments come as the Covid-19 positivity rate nationally rises to 15 per cent. The Monaghan GP highlighted how "more and more people" are now presenting with long Covid symptoms, despite the mildness of Omicron.
she added that people need to take responsibility and if they have symptoms, takes tests and wear a mask in public to protect those who are vulnerable. "While the Omicron variant has been less severe for multiple reasons but also because people are vaccinated.
"We are definitely seeing more people who are presenting now with long Covid symptoms and that is a concern. If you have head cold symptoms and you are going on a bus or into work wear a mask and protect those around. Make sure you are not spreading it because it could be Covid-19."
