Monaghan gardaí are reminding the public to be wary of scammers following a "marked increase in online fraud crimes" in recent weeks.
The latest such incident involves fraudulent emails claiming to come from a priest in the Carrickmacross area, seeking donations for charities and medical treatments.
There has been an increase in the number of people shopping online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Monaghan Garda Tracey Donaghy has urged the public to be cautious when carrying out online transactions.
As well as reviewing bank and credit card statements on a regular basis to reveal any possible problems, Tracey had this advice for the public:
