The Garda Inspectorate has cited work done by Monaghan Gardaí as an example of good practice.
Its report into Internal Anti-Corruption Measures within the Gardaí has been published today.
In it the Inspectorate has praised the Sergeant who performs the role of court presenter in Monaghan who has developed what's described as "a robust process for reducing the number of court cases struck out because of garda nonattendance".
A case tracking system was introduced to allow for all paperwork to be checked ahead of court sittings to allow cases to be rescheduled, rather than struck out by the Judge.
The Inspectorate carried out a site visit to meet with Gardaí in the Cavan-Monaghan Division and during that visit no examples of cases being discontinued because of the nonattendance of a Garda were seen.
