Following a number of burglaries at homes and farmyards in County Monaghan, Gardai have taken the step to advise local people to be extra vigilant to suspicious behaviour at this time.
A Garda sergeant told Northern Sound there are many simple things homeowners and farmers can do to secure their property, like take keys out of machinery and park plant in locked sheds. Homeowners should lock doors and windows, leave a light or radio on and even notify local gardaí when residents will be away from home for any length of time like for a family wedding.
The sergeant said if gardaí are told a house will be vacant, officers will endeavour to keep an eye on activity around it. Gardaí in Monaghan Town are asking the public to report suspicious behaviour immediately and look out for your neighbours.
