Local people waiting for passports and tracking their arrival online are being advised by Gardai to exercise caution as a new scam has emerged.
Monaghan Gardai said they have received complaints that customers who are endeavoring to track their passport are being directed to a site not associated with An Post.
Once there, the customer is being advised to pay one pound for information on the whereabouts of the passport.
The site is also requesting bank details.
Gardai in Monaghan are advising customers to not engage with the application and to immediately exit before contacting the Passport Office directly.
