The Sean McDerrmotts GAA club, in County Monaghan is running a fundraising drive to develop its playing and training facilities at Drumgarve. At present, the club has 300 members with around 80 of those being Sean Ógs, or Under 10s.
The club is raising money through fundraising and grant aid for floodlights at their training and playing pitches, to redevelop their gym and other works at the club's main building. Sean McDermotts have merged their ladies and men's clubs for administrative reasons but, also to place the women's sport on the same footing as the men's.
A new sensory room at the club, means local children with additional needs can also become 'Seans' and their families don't have to miss a game or social event at the club. Chairman, Brian McPhillips told Northern Sound, Sean McDermotts is more than just a GAA sports club: "It's for the benefit of those who's in the parish," Brian said, "that we can progress the club on and bring in new members and so that everybody feels it's their club.
"It's also a huge part of the community. I suppose that's where the sports hub comes in; last night the hall was buzzing from 6:30 until after 10 o'clock with badminton players, players who came from Ballybay, Drumhowan, Corcaghan, Threemilecross."
