Monaghan firefighters attended 36 emergency calls during August this year. The figures were revealed at the most recent meeting of Monaghan County Council. According to the Chief Executive's report, the calls were dominated by Ambulance and Garda assists, Road Traffic Accidents and Diesel Wash incidents.
Crews from Monaghan and Ballybay also attended a large agri-building fire near Tydavnet where local residents were advised to close windows and stay indoors. This is in addition to a road traffic collision on the N2 where a vehicle ended up on its roof in a ditch.
The report also announced that local firefighters have transitioned from a quarterly pay cycle to a fortnightly one, making Monaghan the first local authority to make this change
