A Monaghan farmer has been appointed to the role of new treasurer at Irish Farmers’ Association.
The IFA held it's 69th annual general meeting yesterday where former Monaghan county chair of the IFA, Patrick McCormick, was selected to the role in the organisation. Mr McCormick has now taken over the position of treasurer from Martin Stapleton, who unsuccessfully contested the IFA presidential election in December.
The newly-elected treasurer says he is looking forward to the role and said it would be a challenge that he looks forward to over the next four years. . The former Monaghan chair emerged victorious from the count that was conducted at the AGM, in which only members of IFA National Council are eligible to vote.
The Threemilehouse native said but he was honoured to take up the job as treasurer of the biggest farming organisation in the country.
Mr McCormick said “I want to thank Martin Stapleton for his commitment during his four years in the role. I look forward to working with the National Officers’ Committee and the National Council over the next four years."
