A Monaghan man's farm is among the first two working farms to take part in a new solar energy initiative.
The IFA and Bord Gáis Energy pilot has been in the works for over a year and reached a key milestone recently when it was successfully installed and commissioned on two farms.
One of those farms belongs to Robert McBride, a poultry farmer from Monaghan.
The pilot scheme will determine what needs to change to allow farmers to participate in the move towards renewable energy and identify challenges ,that create barriers to this implementation.
The project will see energy installations across a number of sectors and the IFA says this highlights the farming community's commitment to "playing an active part in the green agenda".
