A Monaghan doctor is calling for penalties for people who ignore self-isolation advice.
It comes after 21 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Cavan and Monaghan yesterday.
13 new cases were announced in County Monaghan in the past 24 hours.
The Department of Health was also informed of eight more in Cavan.
Of the local region, the north Monaghan LEA has the highest 14 day incidence rate per 100,000 population at 61.7.
The national average is 70.7.
The Ballybay-Clones area has a rate of 29, while Carrickmacross – Castleblayney and all of County Cavan has a rate of below five for the past fortnight.
Monaghan town-based GP Dr Illona Duffy says rates in the county are rising because people aren’t self-isolating – even after testing positive.
She says this is being proven by multiple close contacts of confirmed cases testing positive.
Dr Duffy says that in the interest of public safety, penalties need to be introduced for those who deliberately ignore isolation advice.
