Monaghan councillors have agreed to "actively support and promote" the
County Council's "Digital Strategy".
The county's Digital Strategy will run from 2021 to 2025 and seeks to
"position Monaghan as a digital leader in Ireland and beyond".
Two flagship projects from the Council's Digital Strategy include "Made in
Monaghan" and the "Citizen App".
Made in Monaghan aims to "bolster production and manufacturing" by creating
a platform that will allow Monaghan products to be exported internationally
in a "frictionless" manner.
Meanwhile, the Citizen App is intended as a "one stop shop" for all services
in the county that will allow residents to "proactively engage with the
services".
While all councillors were supportive, Sean Conlon said it was important
that "face to face interactions were not lost" because not everyone is
"computer literate".
Meanwhile, Councillor Seamus Coyle added that the "poor" broadband
availability in parts of the county could delay the strategy, and noted that
it will be 2026 before high-speed broadband is rolled out in many areas.
The Digital Steering Group is chaired by Aiden McKenna, who is Enterprise
Ireland's Regional Director for the North West and North East.
He said the Digital Strategy will "empower businesses to harness the
benefits of a digitally enabled county".
