Delegates from Monaghan County Council will be making a visit to the United States over St. Patrick's Day.
At the latest meeting of Monaghan County Council, the Chief Executive Robert Burns confirmed that 3 council members will be making a trip to Nashville, Tennessee.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr Burns said a lot of research had gone in to areas which could have major links with Monaghan.
He pointed out that Tennessee is a rural state, and is known as the gateway to the US southeast with 60% of the US population being within an 11 hour drive of it.
Country Music is also noted as a major opportunity to attract US artists to the county.
Mr Burns also highlighted that 150 Irish businesses are based in the state, and the aim of the trip is to promote Monaghan as a destination both for tourism and enterprise.
Direct flights to Nashville from Dublin are also beginning operation in April.
Noting the costs associated with the trip, the Chief Executive said he believed it was worth the investment, with council members agreeing.
