Monaghan County Museum has closed its current home on Hill Street in the town this evening for the very last time.
This has been the Museum's home for the past 40 years.
The county museum will move to a new purpose-built premises at the Peace Campus early next year.
The Monaghan Museum was the First Professionally Run Local Authority Museum in Ireland.
Monaghan Museum's curator, Liam Bradley says it's an end of an era for the facility
He says that he and his fellow staff members are looking forward to having the new premises open next year.
“Despite the backdrop of the troubles and shock of the devastating Monaghan bombing which had taken place just a few months prior, here was a service that was open to all. A safe space where people from all backgrounds could come and discover a shared history,” he added.
