Monaghan County Council has been shortlisted for an Excellence in Local Government Award.
The Awards are held annually in conjunction with the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and the local authority has been selected under the Diversity & Inclusion category for its 'Sensory Stories' initiative.
Minister of State for Planning and Local Government, Peter Burke said that officials and councillors who serve their communities have a positive effect of the lives of citizens, and should be immensely proud of their achievements.
He added that county councils delivered on an unprecedented global event and demonstrated "flexibility and adaptability" to deliver on community calls and local supports for individuals suffering isolation and loneliness through the covid pandemic.
The Minister said local authorities have been fundamental in welcoming and accommodating Ukrainian citizens fleeing their country.
