Monaghan County Council is on course spend its entire Active Travel allocation for 2022.
The local authority was given just over €2.5 million to carry out projects across the county.
In recent weeks, Minister Eamon Ryan criticised county councils for having 129 million unclaimed from 2021 budgets to put towards walking and cycling infrastructure.
In response to a query by Northern Sound News on its use of Active Travel funding, a spokesperson for Monaghan County Council said the 2022 funding allowed them to continue building on the work commenced the previous year.
This year's funding is split across 46 different projects, with it said the schemes are progressing as anticipated and due to be full completed by year end.
Projects being undertaken in 2022 include upgrades to the Monaghan Town Greenway, footpaths and cycle lanes in a number of towns and villages as well as upgrades to pedestrian crossings and safety infrastructure at schools.
