Chambers Ireland has revealed the shortlist for the Excellence in Local Government Awards 2024. In its 21st year, the Awards feature a total of 98 Local Authority projects shortlisted across 15 categories.
Cavan and Monaghan local authorities have been shortlisted a total of 13 times with Monaghan County Council receiving 11. Cavan has received nominations in the Heritage and Built Environment section for its work on the Virginia Civic, Cultural and Library Services Centre; and for Supporting Tourism for its support for the Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark Business Sustainability Programme.
While Monaghan received nominations in the age friendly initiative section for the Beech Hill College Intergenerational Project, in communications for creative Monaghan, diversity and inclusion for their work on Chatterbox - A collaboration with Monaghan County Libraries & National Learning Network.
Other sections included Urban revival for Ballybay Revival ~ Breathing life back into a rural town, Castleblayney Gate Lodge Library and Market Square Regeneration, The bog garden, Monaghan Peace Campus & Project Children Cultural Partnership and Rossmore Forest Park. The others included under Sustainable Environment & Biodiversity - A Sustainable Solution for Regional & Local Road Pavement Renewal and sustaining the arts - A Deep Ravine.
The Awards are held annually in conjunction with the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. The Excellence in Local Government Award winners will be announced November 21 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santry.
