Monaghan County Council has expressed its sympathies following the death of Peter Murphy.
In a statement to Northern Sound, a County Council spokesperson described Peter as a "colleague and a friend" and added that their thoughts and prayers are with Peter's family.
The spokesperson says Peter was driving a pneumatic, tired road roller, when it left the road at Shankill, Smithborough at around 9:30am yesterday morning.
An investigation into the cause of the accident by the Garda Forensic Collison Investigators and the Health and Safety Authority is ongoing.
Gardaí want to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and are asking for dash-cam footage to be made available to them.
