Monaghan County Council's Environmental Services has been responding to recent complaints over slurry spreading.
Farmers and agricultural contractors are being reminded that the spreading of organic fertilisers is prohibited in counties Monaghan and Cavan until the 1st of February.
The local authority says that fertiliser or soiled water should not be applied to land if it is waterlogged, snow-covered or frozen, or if heavy rain is forecast.
Farmers are are also being reminded not to spread within 20m of a lake shoreline or 5m of any surface waters. All land spreading shall be in accordance with the EU (Good Agricultural Practices for Protection of Waters) Regulations 2022.
