Monaghan County Council has agreed to the sale of the Monaghan Town Library.
However, one councillor opposed the move, while another councillor abstained.
The Monaghan Town Library was placed on the market for €510,000 and the proceeds will go to towards the Monaghan Peace Campus.
And while the Local Authority will receive this fee "in the new year", the Council will retain the property until April, 2023.
Raymond Aughey proposed the sale, adding that he has "no hesitation" in doing so.
Councillor Brian McKenna seconded the proposal, but said he wanted to note that councillors "only agreed to put the library on sale to test the waters".
The Director of Capital Management Delivery, Cathal Flynn, said it wasn't possible to "test the market without putting it up for sale".
Paudge Connelly then signalled his opposition to the sale, while Seamus Treanor abstained from the vote.
Councillor Connelly called the library "a little gem in the middle of Monaghan Town that costs us nothing".
While he welcomed the fact that the proceeds will go to the Peace Campus, he claimed that this was now known at the time of the property going to market.
This is something David Maxwell contested, saying he "knew from the first day of the Peace Campus application that we would possibly have to sell the library".
Paudge Connelly also raised concern about four County Council car parking spaces at the library, and asked who will own these spaces once the deal is complete.
While Cathal Flynn said there is "no concern about accessing the car park", he acknowledged that these four parking spaces will no longer belong to the Council once the property changes hands in 2023.
