It's the first time this has happened in Sean Conlon's political career.

A Monaghan councillor walked out of a recent County Council meeting for the first time in his political career after the Executive team took issue with the councillor using a photograph to illustrate his comments.

During a period of the meeting wherein councillors reviewed the Management Report, Sinn Féin's Sean Conlon sought to have a photograph of an alternative style of cycling barrier placed on the projection screen in the Garage Theatre.

Sean Conlon told that meeting it would prove too difficult to verbalise the design of the cycling barrier, and that a photograph is needed to make his point.

However, Chief Exec Eamon O'Sullivan said it was not appropriate of Councillor Conlon to "make a presentation" and was unwilling to publically comment on the image.

Sean Conlon said he wasn't expecting a comment and expressed disappointment that he wasn't able to make his point.

He left the meeting, saying it was the first time he had done so in his political career.

Later in the meeting, Brian McKenna said Councillor Conlon was making a "very simple request" and acknowledged that he "found it hard to understand it" without the use of a visual aid.

He explained that it was an example of the cycling barrier being on the outside of the path, rather than being on the inside.

Chief Executive Eamon O'Sullivan told Councillor McKenna that the Executive would "look at the photo and get back to Sean Conlon".
