A Monaghan councillor has called for the creation of a masterplan to turn Dartrey Forest into a "major tourist attraction".
Councillor Richard Truell raised a motion at a recent County Council meeting seeking negotiations between Coillte and the parklands owners to develop the area.
Councillor Truell also expressed hope that the council could explore funding streams to develop defined walking and cycling trails.
He told Shannonside Northern Sound that the area is full of historical points of interest but isn't reaching its full potential.
