A local Sinn Féin councillor says a soft opt-out system for organ donations is a "no brainer".
Colm Carthy told a recent Monaghan County Council meeting that the Bill "will help so many people".
The Human Tissue Bill, which has been delayed several times since 2016, allows for an opt-out rather than the current opt-in clause for organ donation after death.
The 'opt-out' system is one of "presumed consent", where someone would have to request to "opt-out", as opposed to the current system where you have to "opt-in".
In correspondence with Monaghan County Council, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said the enactment of the Bill is a "priority for government".
The correspondence also stated that the Department is seeking approval to publish the Bill in the Spring legislative session.
