A Monaghan councillor says a "comprehensive report" is needed on local responses to 999 calls.
At a recent Monaghan JPC meeting, Noel Keelan said "we don't know what has gone on locally" and questioned if calls were not responded to.
The Sinn Féin councillor told that meeting that "when you lift the phone and call 999, you expect a response."
Chief Superintendent Alan McGovern said he "understands the seriousness" of gardaí cancelling 999 calls, but added that he "cannot comment now" as the "matter is being addressed on a national level".
He said he would provide an update "when it is more appropriate to do so".
An internal garda review revealed more than 200,000 calls were cancelled over a two-year period between 2019 and 2020, and 3,000 of the calls were domestic violence-related.
