A Monaghan councillor has raised his concerns over a response he received about the recruitment and retention of firefighters. Speaking at this month's meeting of Monaghan County Council, Cllr Colm Carthy said there were "discrepancies" in the document.
He was speaking after thousands of firefighters across the country initiated industrial action over pay and conditions. Cllr Carthy, meanwhile, told those gathered how the report stated that the retainment of firefighters is at a "high level", which he added, is "not reality".
Cllr Carthy says the situation on the ground indicates clearly that stations locally and nationally are continuing in their struggles to operate.
