Monaghan Councillor concerned over exclusion of teachers in anti-bullying committee

Councillor Coyle told a recent County Council meeting that "teachers are at the front line of this issue".

A Monaghan Councillor has expressed concern that teachers are not set to be included in an anti-bullying steering committee.

Seamus Coyle passed a motion at a previous County Council meeting called for the inclusion of teachers on the newly established review committee for the national bullying policy.

Correspondence from the Department of Education stated that teachers would be consulted and invited to make submissions.

However, the statement added that the steering committee would be made up of senior officials from the Department of Education and "other external experts from a broad range of organisations".

Councillor Coyle told a recent County Council meeting that "teachers are at the front line of this issue".

While he acknowledged the commitment of the government to tackling bullying, he added that teachers and school staff should be given "full membership of the steering committee".
