Monaghan County Council is set to send representatives to Prince Edward Island in Canada for next year's 'Irish Settler Day'.
The community of Fort Augustus, Prince Edward Island, has been twinned with County Monaghan for over three decades.
Numerous Irish descendants of Fort Augustus trace their roots back to Monaghan and have visited the county, with high praise about the hospitality they received.
In a letter to the County Council, Patrick Duffy, from the Fort Augustus Irish Descendants Association, invited delegates to next year's Irish Settlers Day.
The last time Monaghan delegates visited was in 2019, prior to the pandemic.
Sinn Féin's Sean Conlon said it was great to see the "great enthusiasm is still there", and he added that he is always wants to promote Irish heritage.
His party colleague, Brian McKenna, suggested that each MD sends a representative.
