Monaghan County Council says it's fully prepared for the cold snap that will hit Cavan and Monaghan with gusto tomorrow.
In a question from Councillor Noel Keelan at this week's monthly council meeting, the executive said that they were winter ready when it came to salting roads ahead of the forecasted inclement weather.
The council said there are eight separate routes that get salted during freezing temperatures. It added that salt bins can be bought through the council's website for a cost of €120 empty, or filled with salt for €170.
Cllr Hugh McElvaney asked if 'exceptions' could be put in place for businesses on other routes to be salted so they could continue without disruption. He pointed out that businesses were already paying the Council rates on a yearly basis.
The council executive said that this could not be facilitated as the eight routes are fixed and cannot be altered.
