Monaghan Cllr, Paudge Connolly has called on the Government to afford older people the opportunity to have solar panels fitted on their homes. He says it will help them with the cost of living crisis, reduce their energy bills and benefit the environment.
Cllr Connolly also highlighted how payment for the panels could be carried out in a similar way to payment operation through the fair deal scheme. He says older people are feeling the pinch because of the cost of living crisis and many are now afraid to turn on the imersion or boil the kettle.
Cllr Connolly added that he hopes someone, somewhere along the line, "will see the value" in his proposal. "I do think that if we are talking the talk every day of the week about creating our own energy - this is reality for people and this would mean something to people who can ill afford to pay those high energy costs.
"Monaghan County Council from its perspective is trying to put panels on roofs and retrofit homes where they can, and they are doing quite a bit of good work in that regard. But this is a bigger step forward and I would hope that somebody, somewhere along the line, will see that value in what I am talking about here," he said.
