A Co Monaghan mother whose son’s urgent Orthopedic surgery has been cancelled four times since late last year is appealing to the HSE to ensure it goes ahead on the 28th March.
Shelly Gorman’s 10-year-old son Daire was born without his arms and the femur in his legs, and his wheelchair bound.
Shelly told the JF show this morning that Daire is in a lot of pain and often cries himself to sleep at night.
Last week Deputy Niamh Smyth contacted Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly and asked him to intervene in an effort to secure a new date for Daire’s surgery.
The surgery has been scheduled for the 28th of March but Shelly says her son is now "fearful" that his much-needed surgery will be cancelled again.
"Daire is excited and he is looking forward to it," added Shelly.
"But at the same time he is not building himself up too much because he has the fear that it is going to be cancelled again.
"We are just going to take it as it comes up until the week before."
