The cleanliness of Monaghan Town and Cavan Town are consistently on the up.
That's according to the latest Irish Business Against Litter League report published today. These reports survey the level of litter in public places in 40 towns and cities across Ireland. 10 sites were surveyed in both Monaghan Town and Cavan Town, with both towns being praised for their efforts to keep them tidy and litter free. Monaghan Town achieved third place in this report, up from seventh place this time last year, with inspectors calling it an exceptionally clean environment Areas surveyed included Monaghan Court House, the Ulster Canal Greenway, Monaghan Shopping Centre, and the R189 Newbliss Road. Conor Horgan from IBAL says that Monaghan Town is quickly becoming a model for the rest of the country in terms of cleanliness.
Meanwhile Cavan Town also saw an improvement, climbing from 23rd to 17th on the list. The previous report highlighted a lack of clean sites with one site noted as heavily littered. However this survey shows a significant improvement, particularly in the Ardkeen area, with inspectors praising the efforts of the community to bring it to a high standard. The Recycling centre was also noted as being one of the cleanest in the country, with IBAL calling it a model for all Bring Centres.
Conor Horgan from IBAL hopes Cavan Town can keep the momentum going.
Naas was the cleanest town in the country according to the report followed by Kilkenny.
