Cllr Paudge Connolly has called on Monaghan County Council to send a letter of sympathy to humanitarian aid workers from GOAL impacted by the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
During a motion on the matter at a recent local authority meeting, Cllr Connolly extended his sympathies to the families of GOAL first responders who lost their lives in the disaster.
He added that GOAL's Emergency Response program took an integrated approach focused on saving lives, alleviating human suffering and building resilence for the future. Cllr Connolly was supported by Cllr Aoife McCooey, who called on Ireland to continue with its offer of help and support to those who need it most.
Meanwhile, GOAL was founded by former Irish journalist, John O'Shea, in 1977 when he saw - first hand - the plight of street children in Calcutta.
