A Monaghan businessman is calling for support for a 350km/h rail project through the region.
The high speed "North-West Corridor" would connect Letterkenny to Dublin Airport, with connections throughout Ulster.
At an Oireachtas Committee, it was highlighted that the north-west already has a lack of rail and motorway infrastructure and that this would cut the travel time between the two terminals to just 46 minutes.
A price of €9 billion has been described as a low estimate on getting the project across the line; however it is hoped that by Year 6 of operations, there would be 55,000 daily commuters paying €30 for a return ticket.
Barry Aughey, General Manager of Aughey Screens made the case for cross-party support when he spoke to senators this week.
The proposal gained the attention and interest of those in attendance, among those, Carrickmacross native, Vincent P Martin.
