The Monaghan Age Friendly Programme, in partnership with the Local Enterprise Office provided Age Friendly Business Recognition Programme training for local businesses. Businesses included in the recent programme were Connolly's Chemist, Coral Leisure, Truagh Development Association, Diamond Imaging, The Petal Pot and the Hillgrove Hotel. The programme works with businesses who value their older customers and who are putting measures in place to enhance their services for Older People.
Barry Eaton is the Social Inclusion Development Officer with Monaghan County Council. Speaking to Northern Sound, Mr Eaton explained that the actions are often zero or low-cost options which can make shopping easier for older customers. He outlined examples such as providing better signage, using larger fonts on print material and having designated Age Friendly Parking:
