A HIQA inspection on a Monaghan based disability centre found the individual choices and preferences of the residents were promoted.
An unannounced inspection on Donagh House was carried out in April this year. Donagh House offers full-time residential care and support to 11 adults with disabilities.
The centre comprises of two detached bungalows in County Monaghan on the outskirts of the local town. On arrival to the first house that comprised this centre the inspector observed that the house was clean, warm and welcoming. Residents appeared happy and content in their home.with one resident dancing with a staff member.
One resident invited the inspector to see their room and it was observed to be clean, spacious and laid out to suit their individual style and preference. While some minor issues were identified with records and fire safety precautions, residents appeared happy and content in the centre.
Staff were observed to be kind and person centred in their interactions with the residents and residents appeared comfortable and relaxed in their homes. Three residents spoken with reported that they liked the house and all appeared comfortable in the company and presence of staff. A total of seventeen regulations were inspected on the day of inspection with sixteen receiving a fully compliant judgement and one receiving a substantially compliant judgement.
