Monaghan County Council received funding totalling €999,295 from the Department of Rural & Community Development last year. The funding was issued under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme 2023 for a number of projects.
Ballybay Wetlands Public Path Enhancement Plan received funding of €198,832, Mullan Village Rural Walking Trail received €199,653 while Gortnawhinny Lido received €119,250. Elsewhere, Dromore River Blueway Development (Ballybay to Lisnalong) received a funding allocation of €481,560.
The funding is aimed at enhancing local recreational amenities, which, will promote physical and mental well-being, boost tourism and help create economics gains for the local businesses.
