A film that Monaghan Actress Charlene McKenna stars is set to get its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival on February 16th.
A greyhound of a girl is the first animated role that the Glaslough native has taken on and she says animation is great as she didn’t have to worry about hair and makeup.
Based on the same novel as a 2012 release by Roddy Doyle, it tells the story of a 12 year old girl named Mary, who has a passion for cooking and is also trying to deal with the fact that her granny is dying.
Charlene told the Irish Independent that she enjoyed being involved in the movie and that it was a dream of hers to do an animated movie and to do an animated Roddy Doyle movie was even better said the Monaghan native. McKenna said the animated feature was shot a few years ago and she’s delighted it finally has a release date after being chosen to air at the prestigious Berlin festival this month. The Glaslough actress became a household name across Ireland when she stared in hit RTE programme Pure Mule in 2005.
