The family of Dlava Mohamed have expressed their deepest gratitude for the support they have received from the Clones community and all over Ireland. In a public statement, the Mohamed family also thanked neighbours for their support and friendship at this difficult time.
16-year-old Dlava Mohamed lost her life, alongside her best friend 17-year-old Kiea McCann on Monday evening after the car they were travelling in left the road at Legnakelly and hit a tree.
The girls, who were students of Largy College in Clones, were travelling to the school's Debs Ball when the accident happened at 6:45pm on the N54 between Clones and Smithborough.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council David Maxwell said the community of Clones is still in "deep shock" over the tragic events that unfolded this week. He added that the scale of the tragedy and the sadness felt by local people is "hard to put into words."
"I suppose it has been said all week but it is very hard to put into words the tragedy that unfolded on Monday evening," explained Cllr Maxwell. "Being in Clones on a number of occasions this week, the sadness is palpable, people are in shock at how these two girls lost their lives, they can't believe it happened.
"We all seen the outpour of grief when Kiea was returned home on Tuesday evening and Dlava on Wednesday evening, and also through both funerals in Clones and Dublin yesterday. It really is just so hard to put into words."
